Social Action Committee Projects

Social Action Committee

With the advent of a new season, we welcome the opportunity to plan social action efforts for the coming year. Your suggestions are most welcome, and we ask that you please contact us if you would like to participate even further.

Regarding ongoing efforts,  the inevitable closet-cleaning that accompanies a change-of-season presents further opportunity to contribute to the ongoing collection of clothing, personal items, and cell phones for neighbors in need, and of blankets and towels for the comfort of shelter pets.

Most significantly, we thank you sincerely for your contributions to the social action efforts of the past year, the success of which we owe to your generous donations of all types, especially those of time, energy, and enthusiasm.

We hope that you have had an enjoyable and rejuvenating summer, and look forward to working with you in the seasons ahead.

                        Sincerely,

Joyce Kantrowitz  & Janet Haynes

Charity Committee Report

Charity Committee Report

I am pleased to report that we had $ 2,575 available for distribution, thanks to the generous contributions of the Temple Family during the past year. The Committee decided to give to fewer charities this year, and make larger contributions to each.

1. ARZA (Association of Reform Zionists of America) $250

2. Calvary Hospital $250

3. Foundation for Fighting Blindness $250

4. Hatzoloh Volunteer Ambulance $250

5. HUC Soup Kitchen $250

6. Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services- $250

Shelters for Battered Women

7. JCH of Bensonhurst – Emergency Assistance Fund $250

8. North American Conference for Ethiopian Jewry $250

9. Union of Reform Judaism – Union Disaster Fund $250

10. USO – support services to members of U.S. military $250

Total to be expended: $ 2500

Thanks go to our congregants for helping to make the world a better place. Thanks also to the members of the Charity Committee for their thoughtful deliberations.

Please consider making as generous a contribution as you can in response to the Charity Appeal during the High Holidays or anytime. Suggestions of charities and your participation on the committee are welcomed.

Faye Levine Guskin,

Charity Committee Chair
